Depending on wind direction, speed, and other factors, we use several different launch locations for balloon operations, throughout Champaign County. However, these can change at a moments notice if conditions change. Please see below for a selection of th emost common launch locations.
Brookens Administration Center - Urbana, IL
Located on the east side of Urbana, this location is used if winds are generally out of the west, southwest. Brookens Center is located off of East Washington St. (1776 E. Washington St.) at the corner of Lerman Ave. Meet in the north parking lot of off Lerman Ave, balloon launches take place in the soccer fields to the immediate west of the main building or vacant fields north of the parking lot between Brookens Center and the County Jail.
Yankee Ridge School - Urbana, IL
Located in southeast Urbana, this location is used if the winds are generally out of the west, southwest, or northwest as well. Yankee Ridge School is located at the corner of Mumford Dr. and Anderson St. Our balloons launch on the southeast side of the school in the large grassy areas, parking is available on the street or in the small parking lot off of Anderson St. to the south of the school.
Centennial High School - Champaign, IL
Located in west Champaign, this location is used if winds are generally out of the East, southeast, northeast. Centennial High School is located at 913 Crescent Dr. Crescent Dr. runs north/south between Kirby Ave and John St in Champaign. We meet for flights in the large school parking lot on the north side of the main building and our balloon launch area is the large grassy field just north of the parking lot. The launch field actually sits on the corner of John St. and Crescent Dr.
